I had fantastic red velvet cake last night from Stony Brook’s own California Pizza Kitchen while watching Julie and Julia. The movie was adorable and Meryl Streep is an amazing actress. The movie basically made me love cooking even more.

Julie said that “you know what I love about cooking? I love that after a day when nothing is sure and when I say nothing, I mean nothing. You can come home and absolutely know that if you add egg yolks to chocolate and sugar and milk, it will get thick. That’s such a comfort.”

This is so true! After a terrible day, there is such comfort in knowing that by following a simple recipe you can create something that just works [unless of course you are terrible cook]. I think I want to take cooking lessons one summer, to learn the art/science of cooking. Following recipes isnt really the mark of a great chef. I want to be like “I want chicken tonight”, and boom whip out this amazing, tasty, zesty and savory chicken!

The movie also made me wonder who else is reading this blog besides the friends and family that I am forcing to read this :p

lance: lance and anay here, sitting in the bio learning center, waiting for helpless souls to walk through the door looking for bio help. if were lucky, marvin o’neal and corey fortcher will walk through the door any minute.

anay: AMS 110 is going to be exciting today. It’s Lance’s first time in AMS. He shall meet our great professor.

ever since you are young, everyone asks you what do you want to be when you grow up?

when i was young [around the age of 5] i wanted to a be teacher. pretty standard for a 5 year old but then one day my cousin bought me this beautiful astronomy book. i think i read the book around 50 times. it had beautiful pictures of all the planets, fun facts about space and information about stars. it even had this page where it was talking about meteor showers and mentioned a date [it was somewhere in August of 20xx] where there would be a spectacular meteor shower. at that point i didnt even know that a year beyond the 1990s could exist but i bookmarked it on my calender. call me dork but i carried the book everywhere: to school, to parties, the beach, everywhere. as i started to read the book more and more the pages began to get worn in and the paint on the black spine of the book began to wore out. showing signs of ocd at a young age i colored in these white areas with black sharpie. thus developed my fascination of space. dream job # 1: astronaut.

i had a similar fascination with a pocket sized book about weather around the age of 9. i used to run around and say “did you know [insert random weather fact here]. there was this particular chapter in this book that to this day haunts me. it was a chapter about tornados, it talked about the formation of a tornado as well as the safety measures to take when there was a tornado warning. since then everytime i enter a building i try to find a room where i can hind in case of a tornado. then i saw twister the movie and became fascinated with tornados. dream job # 2: tornado chaser

i dont think i had a dream job in middle school, i was pretty much focused with growing tall [never really happened] :P

alas comes high school. like any brown person i wanted to be doctor. it seemed like the convenient thing to do. i was good at science so doctor seemed like a good idea. but i was never fully happy with the profession.

i dont know when it happened, how it happened but i thought about dental school. it combines everything i love. people, art, science, intelligence, dexterity. it seems like a tailor made profession. i have to thank my dentist, dr. jones for finally giving me a full tooth smile at the ripe age of 18! dream dream career #3: dentist

if all else fails i am gonna be a chef!!!! dream job # 4: chef!

since a random day last year i decided to drink my first [not first but like you know…] cup of tea. drinking tea is very relaxing for me. the whole process… choosing a type of tea - boiling water - brewing the tea - burning your tongue - drinking the tea - finish the tea - making another cup…is one of my favorite things in the world these days.

its actually kind of a problem. If a cupcake it cute ill buy it, taking alot of macro pictures of the cupcake, stare at it and eventually eat it.

if the cupcake is red velvet, screw the pictures i am eating it right away.
